How do I install my Wheel Lights?

Under the "Videos" link in the menu we have a detailed installation video that explains the process and shows you how to install your LED strips and battery packs for each wheel. If you're still not up to the task, your local bike shop may be able to assist you with installation.

What type of LED light strips do you use?

Our VeloGlow Wheel Light Kits use COB (Chip-on-board) LEDs. They are brighter, use less power and have a built in diffuser to make them look like a long single light. You can see each individual LED when you down the brightness down.

We use 3 types of COB LED strips.

Our single color strips have 480 LED's per meter and each LED is only one color. This means that all 480 LEDs are being used for that one color at full brightness making them the brightest option. They are also have the designation IP20.

Our Multi Color strips use 576 RGB LED's per meter. Each LED has a Red, Green and Blue diode. To change the entire color of the strip the chip will dim or brighten each diode to get the desired color. While this gives you the option to change the color it reduces the overall brightness of the strip a little bit. These strips also have the designation IP20.

Our last strip is the exact same as our Multi Color strip but is highly water resistant (as long as you seal any cuts in the strip with silicone). The strips are sealed in heat shrink tubing and thicker 3M foam backing tape is used that will adhere to surfaces when exposed to water. They are designed for bikes that might see occasional moisture and the foam backing tape sticks very well to wheels that are slightly rounded. These strips have the designation IP65.

Are your Wheel Light Kits waterproof and what does IP20/IP65 mean?

We sell two different light kits. One with IP20 LED light strips and one with IP65 LED light strips. Our battery packs are currently not waterproof but sealed in a plastic case. We then "pot" the battery to increase is weather resistance. The case is UV resistant and water resistant.

The IP ratings (Ingress Protection)
The first number dictates the size of solid objects the strips are protected against. The IP20 stirps are protected against solid objects 12.5mm in size. The second number is the protection against liquid. Our IP20 strips have no protection against liquid. Our IP65 strips protect against dust and water jets. They are very water resistant but cannot be classified as "waterproof".

Do you ship internationally?

We do not currently ship internationally but will in the future. There are challenges when shipping batteries overseas.

Can I buy VeloGlow Wheel Light Kits at my local bike shop?

Does your battery pack work with other light strips?

We use a 3200mAh battery pack that is designed specifically for our light strips. It uses a DC5521 connector. Different LED strips require different amounts of power to run. If you try to power a light strip that requires too much power or is too long part of the have enough power to light up.
